Amoebics product is a protein. It will therefore be developed for use in the hospital setting where intravenous administration is convenient and preferred.
It is believed that there are 1.5m cases of MRSA infection per year and that this figure is growing rapidly. The total number of cases of S.aureus infection are significantly greater.
It is estimated that MRSA costs the UK NHS more than £500m pa and Amoebics’ own market research suggests that the market for serious S. aureus infections (those targeted initially by the Amoebics product) may be of the order of £500-600m world-wide. |
