Amoebics’ lead product is targeted at the treatment of serious infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) including those caused by Methicillin Resistant S. aureus (MRSA).
The product has been produced at a laboratory scale and shown to promote destruction of S aureus in vitro by the body’s own immune mechanism. The product has also been tested in an animal model of S. aureus infection and shown to both prevent the establishment of infection and also to treat established infections.
This very encouraging data is now being extended through a range of additional studies. In addition the company is working on scaling up the production process to produce material for formal preclinical and clinical testing.
In addition to S. aureus infection the Company’s technology platform can be extended to a range of further products targeted at bacterial disease. The company is currently working on the development of a product to treat Enterococcus infection amongst others. |
